just when i thought i couldn't love Aziz Ansari any more than i already do, he fucks around and does some shit like this. apparently he is doing a mixtape with TV on The Radio's Dave Sitek (?lol?). in the above clip, he goes off on a plethora of big name rappers for their laziness. it's hilarious, but he also shows he knows what the fuck he's talking about. peep game.

K-os

I recently realized that one of my favorite musicians released an album in 09 and I didn't even know. For those of you who aren't familiar with the musical genius known as K-OS this post is to peep you to this amazing Canadian artist. With the explosion of Drake in the U.S, I feel its the perfect time to give credit to another Canadian artist that I feel has been slept on for far too long. I first heard this musician watching MTV in a hotel room in Paris. From there I downloaded his cd Atlantis: Hymns for Disco. I would describe his music as N.E.R.D meets weird church soul reggae music. In otherwords his music is completely original and organic. He plays most if not all the instruments in all his tracks and is also a producer/ rapper. This man does it all. The album is called Yes!. I am currently looking for a working download link of the album, but I may decide to not even put it up and just put youtube videos of the songs off the album up. I usually don't care but I kindof want people too support this musician and what he's doing. He's definitely an inspiration to me and what I'm doing in music. Sooo I guess this post is coming a bit late seeing as this blog was initially my idea. I realized when people were asking me whether ThaGreatwall was over with, that I had to make this post. As you can probably tell from Richard's last post I'm kind of an eccentric  that's too ADD to take care of my pet beta fish, let alone post daily on a blog. But I'm working on it, I took my meds today and feel like its time to open a new page, which lets me segway beautifully into my first blog post. As many of you know I'm a musician by the name of Casfly with a mix tape called Staring At The Sun coming out this summer, (lol had to do some promo) but I am also a film student at this small liberal arts college in NY by the name of SLC or as we call it Hogwarts. Right now I'm working on this movie called Cupcaked which is actually a sequel to another short film I made last year. It's a stoner film with a pretty crazy plot, but you'll be able to peep that later, I don't wanna give too much info out. I haven't copyrighted the screenplay yet. However, I wanted to peep you guys to the initial movie Cupcakes. Interestingly enough, Bruce Ali, my neglected beta fish plays one of the staring roles in the movie. You guys have seen extremely depressing pics of him thanks to my esteemed friend Richard Rich, but in the short 10 minute film you will see shots of Bruce Ali in lets say happier times.

I first heard Jay Electronica as the producer of Nas's "Queens Get The Money" off 2006's Hip-Hop Is Dead. I was impressed with the eery, drum-less sound of the beat and how well it complimented a guy like Nas just going off. Fast forward four years, and with some help from his big buddy Just Blaze, Jay Electronica is one of the most buzzed about artists out right now, thanks in part to the critical acclaim for "Exhibit A" and the heavy radio rotation of "Exhibit C." I had downloaded a couple unofficial Jay Electronica tapes hoping to find more production along the lines of "Queens Get The Money" but found mostly traditional boom bap instead (not that there's anything wrong with that). After searching further, I finally found what I was looking for. Act 1: Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind is a 15 minute, one track EP, containing samples from the film of the same name, and several brilliant verses from Jay Electronica, a spoken word introduction from friends Just Blaze and Erykah Badu, as well as sparse ambient moments and vocal samples from movies. Moving along, "My Word (Nas Salute)" is a reinterpretation of Nas's "The World Is Yours" and is executed in the same subdued style of "Queens Get The Money" and "Eternal Sunshine." "Dymethyltriptamine" features production from J Dilla, the pioneer of low-fi beats. More recently, Jay Electronica also produced Nas's "World To Me," another banger with little to no drums and laid back old school samples. It seemed only fitting to begin and end this post with Nas songs, since Jay Electronica, in addition to producing both tracks, is somewhat reminiscent of Nasir, with his monotone philosophizing and ability to seem tough and intellectual at the same time. Please light something, sit back, and give these ones a listen.

and to think, i told myself i was going take a break from smoking after last night's game. my plan had been to spend the entire weekend listening to Jeezy's Trap or Die 2 and Curren$y's Smokee Robinson (both scheduled for a pre-game release) in a haze of blunt smoke, culminating in the Saints/Indpls game and the Colt's inevitable defeat.


Neither artist showed up in time for the weekend as promised, and Jeezy is still nowhere to be seen, but better late than never Curren$y delivered this morning like a mug:

Curren$y has worked his way into my top 5 (at the moment) these last couple of months as i have been educating myself on his mixtape catalog. so given the Saints cross-promotion i was especially excited about this release. it would have been perfect if it had dropped on Saturday or early Sunday, to add to the "i-told-you-so" of the Saints victory, but nonetheless it is an appropriate celebration. the links i saw floating around were improperly tagged so i took the time to tag it properly in itunes and reupload it. (artists really aren't good at uploading their own shit, even no ceilings wasn't tagged right) i have only played Smokee Robinson through once, but it is already more than exceeded my expectations. very nice work mr. Spitter and mr. Cannon.
